How can an organization receive donated used books?
I am in charge of putting together holiday "give aways" for my non-profit organization. We are looking together give away "educational packages" including books, backpacks, supplies, etc. I am having trouble finding places that are willing to donate used books.

Tell bookstores you will give them an ad in each packet they donate. Then write up a little ad for them. Also, Have you called libraries? How about big companies donating money to buy books from a bookstore that will sell at cost? Remember to offer them promotions of their products and company name. Then put an ad in the paper for any who might wish to donate. Surely some of these are willing to help. Good luck.

Ask libraries. They often do. Also, check with local colleges, they often do to. Tell those who donate that they can write it off on taxes.

IF you have the time to do so, most publishers will donate over runs to 501 C 3 (non-profit) organizaitons. They will even deliver to you. Get some books and check out addresses, or get on the net and contact them that way. Good luck.

Call libraries. Talk to bookstores. Put an ad in the local paper and send out flyers requesting community members to drop off books at your main office.

I don’t know what kind of books you’re looking for, but this is so weird. One of my friends recently died & I have 3 boxes of books so far & I haven’t gone through them all yet. If these are what you want, just tell me where to send them.

Put an ad in the paper. Many people have books just collecting dust in their house. Try a local stationary store for supplies. If you have a form letter explaining what your organization is about they can use that as a "receipt" for what they give you as a write off for tax purposes. It’s best to hit them early before their goodwill runs out.

Maybe you can go to your bank and ask them if you could put a decent size box in the place in a corner somewhere with your Organizantion name on it, and list with marker the things you need. Customers will probably donate when they bank. Ask supermarket store managers if you could put up something there to collect used booke etc. from people that go shopping there.Give it a try.
